Long-term
In August of every year, a team of volunteer-teachers arrives in Cofradia to work for the following school year. These volunteers are responsible for teaching classes, organizing school functions and fundraisers, and community outreach. We also have a specialist special education teacher to help children on a one on one basis.
All volunteer taught classes are conducted in English, so Spanish-language skills are not required. Similarly, prior teaching experience is not required to work at CBS. While experience in education is undoubtedly beneficial, we value more highly motivated, passionate, and hard-working people.
Make no mistake, working in Honduras is challenging for a variety of reasons. In spite of these, or more likely because of these, our volunteers form meaningful, lasting relationships with each other, their students, and the members of the community they serve. They learn valuable life-skills that translate easily into their lives back home, and they are exposed to a program that is unwavering in its devotion to its mission and its students.
Volunteer accommodation is provided free of charge in a shared room in one of our volunteer houses, and lunch is provided on school days. You will need to pay for your flight to and from San Pedro Sula airport and any travel insurance you need. You will also need enough money to cover your living and travel expenses during your time in Cofradia. Most volunteers spend approximately $100 per month while they are in Cofradia, plus any traveling that they do on weekends and holidays.
We are currently recruiting for volunteer teachers to start August 2012. In order to receive free accommodation and meals, you will have to commit to a full-year which starts late August till mid June of the following year. Please email us for details of available positions.
