We are currently accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year.  If you are interested in applying, please visit our Apply to Teach page.

What we’re looking for:

  • Highly motivated, passionate and hardworking people.
  • A willingness to adapt to another culture and way of life.
  • A desire to alleviate poverty through education.
  • Flexibility: teaching in Honduras means a lack of resources, a language barrier and often cross-cultural miscommunication.  You need to be flexible enough to change plans and improvise around any problems that inevitably pop up.
  • The ability to make a 10 month long commitment.

You do not need Spanish-language skills to volunteer at CBS.  All volunteer classes are taught in English, so while knowing Spanish can be helpful, it is not necessary.

Similarly, prior teaching experience is not required to work at CBS.  While previous teaching experience is beneficial, we place more value on an applicant’s motivation, passion and ability to adapt.

Volunteers receive free accommodation in one of our volunteer houses, transportation to and from the San Pedro Sula airport, and breakfast and lunch on school days plus groceries to cook your own evening and weekend meals.  You will be responsible for your flights to and from San Pedro Sula, as well as other living expenses while you are here.  Most volunteers spend approximately $100 USD per month while in Cofradía, plus any traveling they choose to do on weekends and holidays. Volunteers also pay for their own "visa runs" - for more information on this, do not hesitate to send us an email.

As any of our volunteers can tell you, working in Honduras can be challenging.  However, as a result, volunteers form meaningful bonds with their students, each other and the members of the community they serve.  They become an integral part of a program that is unwavering in its devotion to its mission and its students.  Our volunteers gain life-skills that can help them in the future, and they often leave CBS with a better understanding of the world around them.

For perspectives from our past and present volunteers, please visit our Meet the Team page, or our volunteer blog, where our volunteers take turns posting about their experiences.
